Wedding Blues and Stomy Skies

There are four immediate weddings in the next six months that I'm attending, and I'm participating in two. So like any friend and attendee, I'm doing as much as I can to get into the wedding mode. Parties, groom activities (or bride activities for one friend -- yes, you read right) and volunteering.

Last weekend was a bridal shower in which I think I was the first guy ever in the history of bridal showers to attend, then on Friday it was scouting for bachelorette party locations and gift finding.

Today was Matias' engagement party which I was looking forward to going to. That is, until my area of the state became an active battlefield in terms of rain, lightning and the ultimate: flooding.

Driving around since 8 this morning, my list of errands became delayed with each trip. Ultimately, I skipped test-driving some cars with my dad after getting stuck at their house during a particularly nasty lightning storm. It eventually let up enough for me to run to my car and head home.

For a drive that should have only taken about 5-10 minutes, it took 30.

So I came home around 5, jumped and dashed from my car getting soaking wet in the process, only to find my condo without power. Nice, that's exactly what I was looking forward to, especially when I needed to iron a shirt. Hopping on my phone to pass the time on mobile IM, I waited for the power to come back, which was at about 5:45. I turned on the TV and computer to see what was going on with the weather, only to find a giant green, yellow and red-spotted blob covering the width of South Florida and moving slowly to the East.

By 6, I was thoroughly over this storm that continued to make the area very soggy. Chanel 7, the most sensational local news station you can imagine, ran stories of every single puddle in the county, including a few streets I had driven through becoming flooded.

Well, it's 7:15 and the rain has finally let up for a bit. I don't think I'm going to go however, as I'd get there sometime after 8. So my record for wedding event and participation attendance is broken, but hopefully this is it. There are about 12 other things to do this year in weddings, including the rehearsal, party and wedding this upcoming weekend for Jubi -- of which I still have to get my suit and party costume!

How was everyone else's Sunday?!

We missed you there, you should have pulled your best "ref" impersonation and paddled out to Hialeah in some sort of shallow floating debris. ;)
