This week I learned that a friend I've grown up with was killed in a car accident in northern Florida along with his best friend.
I remember seeing him two years ago at my dad's company's Christmas party and asking him if he'd like to hang out since we hadn't seen each other in a while. I remember making tentative plans to meet up but as with many things, work got in the way.
Had my family and I been in town this last Christmas party, we would have seen him only two months ago.
This has caused me to consider many things since the wake I attended with my family last night: Where do I find a balance between work and friends and family? Where do I meet the tipping point that determines work priorities vs. human relationships?
These are the questions I'll be asking myself, as I'm sure many who attended the wake and today's burial have been asking recently. I wish I had known Jason better these past few years. I hope I can put the lost time between Jason and I into the loose friendship I have with his brother Jonathan.
Friends and readers whom I may have not met, I ask you one simple thing. Do it not for me, but for yourself and those whom love you: always wear your safety belts and always keep an eye on your tires' health.
